To mark 60 years of innovation, CENTURY invites you to rediscover its latest creation: MASTERSPHERE, where the heart beats in its own private void – a perfect separation between space and Earth. A macrocosm designed to protect the beating of time. MASTERSPHERE combines Master and Sphere – a name that reflects six decades of mastering a closed, perfect, and timeless sphere.

When the void becomes a watchmaking revolution

Inspired by the Space Age, Hans Ulrich Klingenberg, visionary and founder of CENTURY, posed a revolutionary question: what if we protected the precision of time by completely separating it from the surrounding atmosphere? A cosmic idea transformed into a mechanical reality by isolating the mechanical watch movement in a vacuum, just as space preserves its mysteries. Far from being a mere technical feat, this patented invention, originally developed in 1959, drew its feasibility from the 17th-century scientific experiments of Otto von Guericke (German scientist, inventor and physicist), who was interested in vacuum physics and invented the air pump. Thus began a new era in watchmaking. In 1966, the VACUUM model was introduced for the first time in the CENTURY collection, with its singular logo representing the Magdeburg hemispheres. Today, on the occasion of CENTURY’s 60^th anniversary, the MASTERSPHERE collection perpetuates this legendary heritage.

The power of the void, on your wrist

In a cosmos dominated by the void, every particle is protected, every element endures. This principle is sublimated at the heart of the MASTERSPHERE design:

• Front-loaded monobloc case architecture: A hermetically sealed 316L stainless steel case engineered without a case back to eliminate potential air entry points. Today, using a dedicated high-precision vacuum pump that extracts 99.99995% of the air, the case encloses an absolute void to protect the movement from its worst enemies: dust, airborne particles, oxygen, humidity and external elements.
• High-frequency automatic movement, (36,000 vib/h / 5 Hz): modified in-house from 4Hz to 5 Hz for superior chronometric stability and a smoother movement of the second hand. Truly exclusive, as it is no longer available on the market!
• Hand-cut and hand-polished CENTURY sapphire glass with 24 right-angled double facets (Mohs hardness 9). The internal vacuum creates a powerful under-pressure that naturally and permanently secures the sapphire crystal onto the case, reinforced by 2 security steel clamps.
• Triple-seal crown system: A reinforced 3-gasket construction engineered to guarantee total air impermeability (used solely to set the time and date).
• Water-resistant to 100 meters (10 bar),
• Case back engraved with “Limited Edition – One of 88.”

• Vintage, flat baton hour hand with 3 stripes treated with Super-LumiNova^® and flat baton minute hand with 2 stripes plated Super-LumiNova^®.
• A stainless steel bracelet, a symbol of robustness and modernity.

A cosmic exclusivity in a limited edition

Each MASTERSPHERE is an ode to six decades of translating universal laws into technological mastery. With its “void-filled” concept, it celebrates exploration, innovation and exclusivity.

This edition is limited to 88 pieces per variant. Each watch is engraved with “Limited Edition – One of 88” declaration. An innovative way underscoring each piece’s unique exclusivity.

A brief retrospective

The vacuum technology logo is inspired by the “Magdeburg hemispheres,” a famous scientific experiment from the 17th century. This demonstration, carried out by Otto von Guericke, aimed to prove the power of atmospheric pressure: two copper hemispheres, emptied of air, could not be separated even by the combined force of two teams of eight horses.

In addition, Hans-Ulrich Klingenberg asked the COSC* to test not isolated movements from the watch case, as was the norm at the time, but fully assembled watches sealed in a vacuum. This innovative and costly approach was avant-garde for its time.

Today, while calibrated to chronometer-grade tolerances reflecting historical COSC standards*, every MASTERSPHERE undergoes the Manufacture’s rigorous internal vacuum-integrity protocol: a mandatory 72-hour under-pressure verification performed entirely without security clamps prior to final casing, ensuring an exceptionally high level of chronometric stability worthy of this 60-year pioneering legacy.
